The Speed Of Life
How To Access A Higher Quality Of Life

Let the races begin...
As today is January 1st...
We all know that a significant number of people are going to start their New Years Resolutions.
I wish you the best in them...
But I also know that, sadly, most will fail...
About 25% by the end of the week...
Then 50% by the end of the month...
And it will continue to decline until we reach around 90% - 92% by the end of the year.
However...
I know that these resolutions and intentions for our lives are meant to give us a higher quality of life...
Something we all desire.
So, I want to provide an idea for you that, if utilized properly, can help you gain that higher quality of life this year.
Now, I was listening to a sermon the other day (no, this will not get "spiritual", that just happens to be where I heard this from)...
And the guy speaking was talking about listening to books.
He had a friend tell him about this awesome feature in audio books...
Increasing the speed.
So the guy increased the listening speed to 1.5x, which he said was a bit fast at first, but which his listening adapted to.
This is where it gets interesting though...
After having listened to reading at 1.5x speed...
He tried to really listen to people...
And he discovered something...
It was really hard.
Everyone seemed to be speaking so slowly...
His hearing had adapted...
But it created a problem for him.
Instead of really listening...
He began to become impatient and wanted people to hurry up and get to the point.
In psychophysiology...
This is called a decrease in Emotional Intelligence.
Now, he noticed this problem early...
But many people live their lives in a similar way...
Except never notice the new problems that are created along the way.
They try to speed up their lives....
Speed up the process of trying to get to their goals...
All without realizing the downstream consequences of what they are doing.
We know that Burnout is impacting over 80% of the population.
Why do you think that is?
A significant portion...
Is the fact that we are speeding up...
Without paying attention.
Think of it like driving a car...
If you begin the press the accelerator, it can feel great...
But if there is a sudden 90-degree turn...
Or the person in front of you slams on their brakes...
What do you think the consequence will be?
A crash...
And often one with terrible consequences.
If you want to have a higher quality year this year...
Do not be so eager to slam on the gas...
To go at 1.5x speed or faster.
Speed does have its place...
But so does a slow pace...
And a pace which allows you to build and develop yourself well...
As does stopping to recover.
If you want your life to become better and grow...
You need to learn the different speeds of life...
To press the gas when you are on the highway...
To press the brakes when there is a tight turn coming up...
To get more fuel when your tank is running low...
To pull up a map and plan the best direction to your destination.
The speed of life is not one speed...
It is a mixture of different speeds at different times for different purposes...
And the better you navigate these different speeds...
The higher the quality of your life will become.
