To Know Thy Enemy

Why Most People Never Have Success Beyond Their Echo Chamber

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published 19 days ago 3 min read

There are many people who want to have success in life...

But they struggle tremendously.

We have watched as this often crumbles into forms of tribalism...

Where you begin to see "sides".

Within any "side" that is created, there may be a modicum of success...

But outside of it?

Nothing.

What happens to most of these individuals is that they become locked inside these echo chambers...

Where nothing really happens.

There is a lot of chest beating...

But there is never really any progress or movement.

Why?

Success is obtained beyond your current sphere of influence.

If you remain in the echo chamber...

You are existing within a comfort zone...

Unchallenged...

Unquestioned...

And ultimately unsuccessful at accomplishing anything.

What this means is that if you cannot successfully interact with those outside of your echo chamber...

Then you are not really accomplishing anything.

This, however, becomes the problem.

How?

Most people are existing in delusional beliefs about how reality functions...

On every end of the spectrum that exists...

Fueled by the echo chambers in which they have been existing.

The result...

Is that they struggle to communicate with anyone outside of the echo chamber.

So, most people return to their comfort zone and accept their failure...

Often acting self-righteous while having accomplished nothing.

But if you want to have true success...

You need to figure out how to interact successfully in the greater world.

What is needed to accomplish this?

To Know Thy Enemy.

This is where most people go absolutely wrong, though...

They "think" they know about the perspectives outside of themselves...

But all they know is the delusional version of other perspectives created by the echo chamber in which they have been existing.

They do not actually know anything about the other perspectives.

What is it called when someone is so prideful...

Believing they know others better than those individuals know themselves?

A jerk...

An oaf...

An imbecile...

A clueless moron...

There are so many words you can use...

And individuals on every "side" will come up with their own terms...

Some of which make absolutely no sense when you look at reality.

What does this cause?

It makes people not listen to you...

Because it is clear you have no idea what you're talking about.

That is the issue...

Because so many people are "confident" they know things...

When they clearly know nothing...

They are ignored...

And therefore never are able to gain any real success...

Outside of their echo chamber.

If you want to have deep and persistent success...

You need to actually understand others.

Not from "your" perspective...

From "their" perspective.

But here is where you need to be very careful...

You cannot treat them as a lesser.

Do not be prideful in your understanding of the world, that you stop actually listening...

That you do not seek to understand.

Instead of looking at others as lessers...

Look at them as thy...

As individuals whose perspectives are worthy of reverence...

That there is a platonic intimacy that is of value to obtain...

As others who are of value.

You may not agree with them...

But that does not diminish their value...

And if you treat them as valuable...

You will gain new perspectives that reveal greater truths.

Greater truths which will then allow you to have a greater influence and impact...

And as you continue to grow and cultivate yourself...

That is where you will gain true success.
