Lucid Dreams and Immortality Via Time Dilation
How to escape into your dream world FOREVER.
It's often amusing to watch the reaction I get when telling someone who is not familiar with lucid dreaming that time dilation is possible within the dream world.
They will often look at me like I've just told them I'm from Mars.
Well, as strange as it may seem, yes, it actually IS possible to dilate time within a lucid dream. I do it regularly, and many other lucid dreamers have done it too, as can be easily proven by just perusing some of the LD groups and boards out there.
Time dilation within a lucid dream involves stretching out the dreamer's perception of the passage of time, so that it can seem that hours, days, or even weeks have gone by within a 10-minute dream period.
As you can imagine, perfecting this skill can enable one to have a LOT of interesting adventures.
But actually, it can allow one to do way more than that. It can potentially allow a lucid dreamer to become IMMORTAL.
Discovering Time Dilation Within Lucid Dreams
When I first started to research lucid dream time dilation, it occurred to me that, if this was actually possible, the ultimate potential for this ability could completely change everything.
Could it be that actual immortality can be achieved this way - by simply escaping into the dream world, where time is essentially meaningless?
After all, if you can stretch your perception of the passage of time from minutes to hours or days, then why not ultimately to EONS? Why would there even be a limit at all?
Time dilation within lucid dreams proves that the passage of time is a matter of perception, and that it may be possible to exist indefinitely within a lucid dream.
I got to work and began developing techniques to effectuate time dilation within my lucid dreams, and found very impressive results early on. But I later learned exactly WHY I was encountering such success, where legions of other lucid dreamers had met only with frustration.
It turned out that the dreamer's BELIEF is critical to the process of developing time dilation powers within dreams. If you believe that time dilation is too absurd and unlikely, then your mind will simply not let it happen for you.
Henry Ford is often quoted as having said "Whether you believe you can do a thing, or you believe you can't, you're right."
Furthermore, if you believe that developing time dilation abilities is difficult, and will require a long, hard slog, then IT WILL. You see, in the world of lucid dreaming, the concept of "self-limiting" beliefs takes on a whole new level of impact.
This makes perfect sense, of course, since it is YOUR MIND that is actually creating everything within your dream world.
It can give you anything there you could possibly want - but it can also restrict you, or even TERRIFY you, depending on what exactly is going on inside your subconscious.
My Dream World, My Enemy
When I was a small child, I suffered a terrible tragedy involving a beloved pet that scarred me horribly. I was 6 years old, and I lost my new puppy in a tragic and violent car accident.
In the months that followed that horrific event, I experienced some of the most terrifying and paralyzing nightmares that a child can experience. I simply cannot put into words how completely terrorized I was, and how much I dreaded falling asleep each night.
This turned into an ordeal that lasted years, and I was, at the time, completely at the mercy of my subconscious mind - which seemed to loathe me with an unusual passion, judging from just how sadistic and cruel the nightmares that came at me nightly had become.
But of course, it didn't actually loathe me. The subconscious mind is simply a vastly complex computer that executes programs, according to how it has been programmed by your experiences, thoughts, and actions. It has no will or desires of its own, it simply executes orders.
The conscious mind is the "aware" part of your mind, while the subconscious mind is the "unaware" part which operates just under the surface.
My subconscious was programmed by that tragedy to produce horrors for me nightly, and it would take years for me to reverse and undo that "toxic code," and return to a normal life.
Similarly, most people have been programmed to see reality in certain ways by society. Certain concepts are considered to be impossible. Laughably absurd.
Indeed, I continue to meet people who believe that lucid dreaming itself is impossible, and that we LDers are all just deluding ourselves into believing that we can control our dreams.
Unsurprisingly, these folks haven't experienced a lucid dream in their lives. And never will.
Programming Time Dilation Into Your Subconscious
So, in order to achieve time dilation in lucid dreams, one must BELIEVE it is possible. Just as one must believe it is possible to control your dreams if one expects to ever become lucid in one.
This can be accomplished through meditations, visualization, affirmation, and other techniques. I always strongly urge new lucid dreamers who wish to explore time dilation to engage in these for a while before expecting to see results in the dream world.
Repetitive "training" techniques like visualization and affirmation can program the subconscious mind to accept concepts and ideas that it normally wouldn't.
Visualization, especially, can be extremely powerful towards the purpose of developing skill in dream world time dilation. I often visualize myself spending long stretches of time in a dream, then awakening in my bed after I've perceived weeks to have gone by.
The subconscious mind needs to become comfortable with the concept before it can play along with your dilation desires in a lucid dream. This "training" part is often what puts people off to the process, because it can take a while for some, but my dear Lord is it worth it!
I have some more advanced techniques, as well, that can speed things up, so do check out my blog for more info on that over here.
Is Immortality Via Lucid Dreams Possible?
So, is it really possible to time dilate your way to immortality in a lucid dream? Well, I don't know, what do you think? Tell me, if it's possible for me and others to spend weeks in one dream, why wouldn't it be?
I believe it IS definitely possible, but admittedly, I have not been able to achieve time dilation beyond a few weeks, as of yet. I put this down to the power of the programming that has been laid down in my subconscious over the years of my life. I am a product of this unbelieving world, after all.
But that doesn't mean I'm not actively attempting to achieve far greater degrees of time dilation. Indeed, when I first started, I could only achieve small amounts of "time stretching," but it built up gradually to where I am now.
I know it's possible to expand the level of time dilation I've already achieved, so I will keep going. And if it is possible to exist indefinitely inside a single lucid dream…well, I suspect I will be a VERY interesting person when I wake up from it. Or will I wake up at all? Hmmm…
