The Rock Collection
“Laura, watch my tables, I’m going to pop out back for a smoke really quick.” I don’t wait to see if she heard me, I know everyone else did so I slipped out the back door by the walk in freezer. When it gets really hot in the kitchen they prop the back door open and hope for a cool breeze to float through past the grills and ovens. I heard the Spanish music playing in the kitchen as I walked past a row of cars to the little island of trees by the dumpsters.

This is Life
Occasionally, you meet someone who claims without trepidation that they want to know what you are thinking, seeing, hearing, feeling when they realize you are having a manic episode. Yes, a close friend, all one of them, wants to see inside your mind so they can better HELP you. God bless her. She meant well; I know that now, but it still stings when I think back on that all to predictable day. To this day I know she truly and sincerely wanted to help. I naturally hesitated but nonetheless, I let her in. Never again. My experience went a little something like this.

Living with the Black Dog
I found the description of depression as the Black dog a while ago. It was presented in comic format. It resonated so much with me, that image, and the explanation that I have referred to my reoccurring periods of depression as ' visits from the black dog' ever since.

Brackish Hearts
The water below held the depths of a great many lifetimes, held memories of a time before I existed and would hold many more of a time after my existence. I wondered if it captured the emotions of those that passed it by, grasped on to a bit of each one and buried it deep below. I mused at what stories lay hidden in that brackish river. But in the black of night, all I could see was the ebony surface, the shine of the moon glinting off the contours of the small, rhythmic waves as they gently lapped against the rocky sidewall of the bridge.
