To Be Honest
There are a number of specific phrases that lying persons are said to use when exaggerating the truthfulness of their spoken or written words. One of the most commonly mentioned of these is the phrase “to be honest.” The use of this particular phrase reveals an overemphasis on truthfulness which is often listed as an indicator that someone is lying. Recently a friend called me out during a discussion for using the phrase, and suggested I was likely lying because of it. I am no different than any other human being alive, and cannot claim that I never have, or never do, lie, however in this case I was being perfectly honest (and there I go again overemphasizing my truthfulness, am I lying about not lying? No I am not.) Later I caught myself using the phrase again in an email and again, in that particular case, I was not lying, or dissembling, or misleading in any way.

Lost in the Wild
She woke up softly, to the scent of sea salt, cow pies, and alfalfa. It was a distinct smell, one she had come to know well. A single ray of sunlight beamed brightly through the gnarled wooden planks and the gap between two of the old weathered boards. She grimaced as she rolled to her side, her hips sore from the solid ground she slept on. She slowly brushed some hay away from the edge of her dwelling to reveal a series of notches as she carved one more with a small jagged rock; 42.

The Feelings that Reign
“Just look on the bright side.” “At least it’s not that bad.” “Just get over it.” I’ve heard every single one of those said to others and I cringe at every single one. Why others? Because a rare few know the struggles of a mind such as mine and those who know me that dearly usually know what to say and what not to say. The ones who don’t know what to say, or who might use one of the aforementioned phrases do not know me as well as they think they might…but then that’s why they don’t know me, because I know them so completely that I make sure to conceal that which I don’t want them to see.

5 acts that promote better mental health.
1. Eat well and exercise regularly. The cliché "a healthy body, a healthy mind" is indeed accurate. When we use improper fuel, like carbohydrates, or do not maintain our joints, everything else will fall apart. There's no need to perform an Olympic-distance triathlon, or to restrict your diet to just protein drinks and broccoli, as you're not going to the Olympics. Get outside for at least 10 minutes a day, even if it's just for a few minutes. Doing a little exercise, as well as getting some fresh air, can make a big difference. Make sure you eat at least one serving of vegetables with every meal, cut down on junk food, and try your best to resist carbs and sweets. With these tiny alterations, you'll be shocked at the different effects they will have on your attitude. Additionally, it's a wonderful opportunity to brush up on your cooking skills.

The Psychology Behind A Serial Cheater
Infidelity is such a shitty and difficult thing for everyone involved to understand. If you've ever been cheated on, you know how heartbreaking and confusing that experience can be. You wonder how your partner could do that to you knowing the pain they were going to cause you. You wonder why do people cheat, if it was your fault, if you weren't enough or if it was because of something you did. These questions are not easy to answer and many psychologists have been studying this behavior to find some pattern.

Meditative Medium
For me creating in any form has always been a contemplative exercise. As an Expert Registered Yoga + Children's Yoga Teacher/Trainer and Craniosacral Healer, I also share this with clients or it will often come up for them during healing sessions. When we give our right (creative) side of our brain the space to do as it wishes, we allow intuition to flow and naturally come into a parasympathetic and meditative state. It's a beautiful way to help us process deeper thoughts and emotions, particularly if 'meditation' in the formal sense many see it as, is not your thing. Personally, I believe meditation can be found in our day to day, and in fact this can help us to be more present - which is what meditation is all about. We don't need to sit like Buddha for this to happen... it's actually quite challenging for most.
