How To Achieve The Ultimate Consciousness

The ultimate purpose of any human being is to achieve the pinnacle of human intelligence i.e. super consciousness.

The nature of consciousness has mystified humankind for millennia. We each experience our own subjective awareness, yet struggle to understand where it comes from and how it emerges from the physical matter of our brains. In recent decades, scientists have gained important insights into the neural correlates of consciousness. However, the hard problem of consciousness - understanding how subjective experience arises from brain activity - remains largely unsolved.

In this article, we will explore the tantalizing possibility of achieving an enhanced state of consciousness that goes beyond our everyday awareness - a state that has been called "ultimate consciousness." This heightened level of consciousness has been pursued by contemplatives, mystics and sages since ancient times through practices like meditation, sensory deprivation and psychedelics. While the existence and nature of ultimate consciousness continues to be debated, many argue that realizing this state represents the pinnacle of human development and spiritual attainment.

So what might constitute ultimate consciousness, and is it achievable? Based on accounts from religious texts and direct experiences reported by meditators, psychedelic users and others, characteristics of this elevated state may include:

Boundlessness - a sense of infinite space and time, transcending one's everyday perception of the world as limited.

Objectivity - experiencing a detached awareness without identifications or biases.

Interconnectedness - an intuitive understanding of the unity and interrelation of all phenomena.

Inner stillness - a profound peace and freedom from mental chatter.

Joy, bliss, unconditional love - elevated emotions and insight into the intrinsic value of all existence.

Nonduality - a dissolution of the sense of self and other; a realization of oneness with all life.

Intuitive wisdom - direct knowing that transcends rational thought.

Creativity and inspiration - elevated insight and imagination.

While this list reflects recurring themes in accounts of ultimate consciousness, its full nature remains elusive. We lack the appropriate conceptual framework and language to describe this extraordinary mode of being.

Different Types of Consciousness

Waking consciousness - Our normal waking state of awareness and alertness to ourselves and our environment. We experience sensations, thoughts, and perceptions through our senses.

REM consciousness - The state of vivid dreams during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. The brain is active and dreaming occurs, even though our bodies are paralyzed.

Non-REM consciousness - During deep, dreamless sleep, we remain unconscious but retain basic life-sustaining functions.

Altered states of consciousness - States induced by psychedelics, dissociative anesthetics, deliriants, hypnosis, meditation, sensory deprivation, fasting, etc. They create changes in perception, emotion, cognition and sense of self.

Transcendent consciousness - An elevated or mystical state described as going beyond ordinary consciousness. Features may include a sense of unity, bliss, timelessness and insights into truth or the nature of mind.

Minimal consciousness - A low level of awareness present in some neurologically damaged patients who show intermittent signs of consciousness even though they are unable to communicate verbally.

Near-death consciousness - Altered states reported by some people who have come close to death, with features like seeing tunnels of light, life flashing before one's eyes, feelings of peace, etc.

Collective consciousness - The shared beliefs, ideas and moral attitudes that emerge in human societies and are transmitted through culture.

Non-human consciousness - The extent to which animals, plants and other organisms may have awareness remains debated. Some believe a type of universal consciousness pervades all life.

Machine consciousness - The speculative possibility that sufficiently advanced artificial intelligence could develop self-awareness akin to human consciousness.

Is the achievement of such a state possible? Traditions like Buddhism do point to practices and stages of meditation that culminate in a profoundly expanded level of awareness they equate with enlightenment or spiritual liberation. However, there is no scientific consensus that verifies reports of these realized states. Some researchers believe that certain psychedelics can provide glimpses of this level of consciousness under carefully controlled conditions.

Without doubt, realizing ultimate consciousness would require underwent profound changes in our minds and brains. Through intensive mental training we may be able to suppress our evolutionary tendencies toward fear, aggression and ego-centrism and unlock states of compassion, equanimity and interconnection with all life. Combining meditation practices with cognitive and psychoactive agents may accelerate this transformation. We may also find new paths through the merger of contemplative practice and technology.

The realization of ultimate consciousness raises intriguing possibilities about the capabilities and limits of our minds. While the goal seems elusive, the journey promises a deeper understanding of the nature of consciousness and our place in the universe. With careful optimism, science and spirituality may converge to uncover the greatest mysteries of existence and what it means to be human. While its full scope likely exceeds our current imagining, pursuing this quest promises a future of expanded possibilities for our species.
