Why You Should Always Tip Your Bartender. Top Story - February 2021.
You may be surprised to know that full-time bartenders (unless you have an amazing owner/manager who provides a higher hourly base wage) make pretty much the entirety of their income based on the generosity of others, aka tips. That's right, our customers support our livelihood. It's not just "fun money" or extra money; it's our bills, our rent, our groceries, our medications, our doctor visits, our ability to help others - our basic necessities. For this reason alone, you should always tip your bartender.

Wine Review: Beringer White Zinfandel
In a previous Vocal post, I talked about a new red wine I tried from the brand OP. I talked about how my wine drinking days began with drinking Rosés. I personally enjoy sweeter wines to dryer wines, so Rosés were always my go to when it came to wine. It works out perfectly when your friends and family enjoy different wines than you because it means you can enjoy something to yourself and if you enjoy the same wines you can share when you find something new. After writing the last review of the Sweet Red Wine from OP, it got me thinking about whether or not I even still liked Rosé at all. White Zinfandel and Pink Moscato were my go to wines when I turned of age. I wasn't quite ready for the dark color and rich flavors that came with red wine and the white wines I tried were either too dry for my taste or borderline acoustic to my taste buds, they were that sweet. Rosés by nature are the middle ground of wine in that there used to only be red and white wine and pink wines were made by mixing the two together.

Yaka Hula Hickey Dula
It's weird to think about drinking in high school as "something we just did." There's so much talk about getting kids to "just say no" to drugs and alcohol. I'm sure that every generation thinks that they're different, but we drank and didn't do stupid stuff. Sure we were capable of it, but most of us didn't do dumb shit. We drank, got drunk and usually passed out wherever we were. But I enjoyed drinking alcohol in high school and beyond. I've been drinking for a long time and I thought that I had had most of the drinks that had been created. Drinks with Everclear (Woof!). Drinks with Malort. (Ewww!) And everything in between. I wasn't even much of a beer connoisseur. I drank Milwaukee's Best in high school and college. And I pretty much stuck to Calvert and coke if I wanted something a little harder. Today I drink craft beers which totally doesn't seem like me, but I love them! Most of them are pretty hoppy, which is nothing like Milwaukee's Best or any other domestic beer for that matter, but I feel like I'm more of an adult when I drink these beers. I also feel like an adult when I drink cocktails. I'm still not much of a mixologist as I tend to stick to simple drinks these days. Beer. Dirty Martini. Straight bourbon. But I am always game for an interesting drink and I'm willing to try just about anything. (I mean, I tried Malort.)

Wine Review: OP Sweet Red Wine
I would like to start off by saying that I am, by no means, a wine connoisseur. However, I can appreciate a good bottle of wine or a mixed drink every now and again. Due to the roaring 20s reemerging due to COVID-19, bars shut down for a time, taking stay at home orders seriously. I don't usually consume wine at bars so this new order gave me the opportunity to try new wines at home. Other than the occasional sip of champagne during the New Years or Christmas Eve celebrations, alcohol in any form wasn't a big part of my life. We had bottles of wine at home but it had to be an occasion for my mother to open them. In the state of Texas TABC allows underage drinking so long as the child's guardian or parent is present and approves. I just wanted to clarify that; my mother and father were not big drinkers but if there was a cause to celebrate and we were old enough, they allowed us to have a glass with them. The summer of 2012 was the first time I got to try wine outside of my parents home. I was 18, spending 10 days touring France, traveling from Nice to Paris.
