Pride Month
Pride - stand tall
Pride to me is standing up tall, puffing your chest out to the world and saying this is who I am. In a world that is ever changing. To think that the world has been around for billions of years, humans have been on earth about 200,000 years but the earliest form of writing has been around approximately 5000 years! It means that Queer people have existed for 200,000 years most likely but we just didn’t have a meaningful voice until 40 years ago since the 70s and that was just the springboard. There will have always been lgbt+ people in history but the narrative didn’t really begin until the Stonewall riots. Civil partnerships in the uk were only around from 2005 and then gay marriage was legalised in 2014. There’s 195 countries in the world and only 29 that allow same sex marriages. So a way to go yet. You only have to see a post from someone who is championing trans rights to then see the dozens of hateful comments underneath. Pride is essential as it’s our voice. If you are silenced or quietened down then you lose your voice and so eventually lose your rights. If we can show pride, fight for each other then our voices can be heard and we can fight for the other countries for better rights. Some countries people face death or prison if they have same sex intercourse and other countries where there are serious limitations to expressing yourself. Just for being you - you could be beaten up at the very least. Just recently Ali Fazeli Monfared was murdered by his cousins and half brother who murdered him for being gay. This was only in May 2021. He was hoping to exile to turkey and then travel on to Europe but he didn’t make it tragically. Pride is so much more than in a pre- Covid times going to pride, getting drunk and dancing to Britney Spears. It’s an essential way for people to express themselves and remind the world that there is a long way to go!

High School Prom
1. Music - Madonna Walking into senior prom ready to dance, honey! Who doesn't like Madonna? It's all about getting the party started. A little pre-workout, so to speak. It gets the blood going and by the time it gets into the middle of the song, you are totally groovy out. I LOVE it. Music really does bring people together, okurrr.

Songs That Stick Like Glitter, A Pride Playlist
June 2021 marks the the 51st anniversary of the first ever pride-march. For those of us who are still in lockdown, pride celebrations might look a little more like Netflix in bed with a jumbo bag of Doritos, but that doesn't mean you have to completely surrender all your pride-celebration staples.

Your 30 Minute Rainbow Pride Playlist
Woohoo, Pride Month! Time for parties, parades, and embracing your sexuality and gender identity, whatever they may be. I've always enjoyed Pride music. Unlike other music played for holidays - like Christmas or Halloween - music blasted during Pride doesn't need to be specific. So long as it's about embracing your individuality, loving who you want to love, or even about celebration in general, it works for the month. Just like sexuality and gender, Pride music is fluid. And it's always super fun!

My Big Gay Country Playlist
Country music has never been known as a culturally progressive genre. This is why it serves as such an important touchstone to measure social change. If country music is becoming more inclusive, that means there is hope for the rainbow flag even in the deepest set, most traditional parts of our nation.

You've Got Pride: A Playlist
The stories below are all fictional but come from a place of observation, love, and acceptance. I hope the songs manage to dance as they sway their ways into your thoughts, and maybe the stories you find here will make you feel a little less alone.

Melancholia In Time Of Dancing & Bears
People shouldn't be open about their sexuality. Cis folk don't worry about it, and LGBTQ+ folk shouldn't worry as well. By not being heterosexual, we have the added stress that we need to reveal our sexual preference(s). At 48 years old, I am still not open about my sexuality. Family and some friends still think that I'm waiting for a woman to make an honest man out of me.

High Notes In The Shower
I swear I use to battle with myself on what I was suppose to like growing up. I somehow found women so attractive and it killed me to think I was weird or nasty. I remembered how I crushed so hard on a girl when I was in the 8th grade. I couldn't really shake the feeling of liking a girl. Maybe I was born that way. I would come home from school and hop straight in the shower. I would have my speaker on the opposite side of the curtain and I would sing to the top of my lungs. I never really knew if I sounded good or not; nobody ever complained. My song playlist would go on for ever and all my greatest hits would play. I would sing and think about my crush. I swear my music helped me understand my new found attraction to other girls like me. Then as I got older I heard Lady Gaga's "Born this Way".. I just knew she made that song for me.
