You are my summer fate

A sonnet for a summer memory

The desert sands burning beneath my feet,

I keep walking in the heat of the day;

My footsteps drum a rhythm, hear that beat,

The sun, shining brightly, shows me the way.

Then storm clouds gather far in the distance;

Shards of radiant lightning drawing my gaze,

Rain and rest will reward my persistence,

To reach my beloved through the day’s blaze.

Mud beneath my toes, rain upon my face,

Cools my skin and raises hairs on my flesh,

Though my soul is aflame for that embrace,

That awaits me when I see love afresh.

But your eyes make my journey worth the wait;

Your arms around me is my summer fate.
