A Few Ideas For Poetry Forms

The Huntress of Skipton Castle Woods in the Style of Van Gogh - A Night Cafe Creation By Mike Singleton

My friend Lena wrote a beautiful poem “Dreaming In Colours” which you can read below and I thought what if you wrote a poem that was based on a geometrical shape (the three words of that beautiful title continued over three by three word lines)

Forms I thought of immediately are:

Square Form - The same number of words per line and number of lines in a poem

Triangle Form - Start with one word, next line two words , next three words and so on

Diamond Form - A Triangle followed by a reverse Triangle

More will come and unfortunately the Vocal Editor will not format them as you want without difficulty so I will screenshot this to include in the poem.

What The Should Look Like

I hope this gives you some ideas. I think the formats could go on forever.

I read this a couple of times, it’s nice to be reminded, again of the different style of poetry. Yes Lena is a talented writer for sure

I had to revisit this. Its just so beautiful and kind that you did this. But it's also awesome! I love the idea and am so going to try it! Thank you fir the honor and love my dear friend! ❤️

  • Yes, Vocal is just so difficult. My Butterfly Cinquain can't be in the shape it should because of that. But the Square form shouldn't be a problem

  • Very interesting. I enjoyed this.

  • Very clever! Love this idea!
