Woven Into The Fabric

An Acrostic. For Real Poetic's One Year Anniversary Challenge.

By Paul StewartPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Acceptance, is as important as recovery

Never-ending nothingness lies at the pit

Never-ending nothingness lies at the pit of reluctancy to change

In the sand, under the covers, and behind

Various screens and devices, distractions

Everything changed, when the demons were driven away

Recovery is not the final destination

Sobriety is not the final destination, it's an ongoing, life-affirming, transformative process

Acceptance of the new replacing the old is as important as recovery

Recovery is not the final destination, it becomes woven into the fabric of your roadmap

Years passed, without that stain, are another part of the journey

The ending line of this poem is so incredibly powerful and makes such a cool connection between the journey of recovery and celebrating anniversaries! Such a good piece!

The interpretation of anniversary here works very well. Yep acceptance for sure,…. Plus responded to this important line particularly, “it's an ongoing, life-affirming, transformative process”. 👏

Reengagement after recovery is really an ongoing process, so easy to slip back into the abyss. Hopefully recovery stops and newness begins.

I wonder whether realignment might be a better word that recovery - not here, in this poem, I mean in general. Recovery. I think recovery might be a legacy word from a medical model of wellbeing.

  • Oooo, Sir Paul, this was sooooo deeeeeeeep! Loved it! 🍩🥐

I like the repetition in this; it builds like waves, like your awareness is growing all the time. It's a healing.

“Acceptance of the new replacing the old is as important as recovery” really struck me. Very pertinent to a current situation. An excellent acrostic, Paul!!

  • What a great reminder that certain moments don't mark a completion, but are milestones throughout your life-long journey.
