Winter's Bittersweet Charm

A stillness filling the air makes it difficult to drudge out into daily activities we regularly endure. But I think this stillness reminds us, to slow down, to just be. It bring rest and openness to the forefront of our mind, and though it causes chaos in our mundane routines, I'd argue that it wakes us up. Shakes us down to the core. Of course there is no way to be sure. There is only that which resonates and that which we choose to believe.

Oh this time of year, so bittersweet.

The bite of the first frost lingers around every movement. A physical reminder that we are alive, that warm blood races through our arteries and veins to keep us so. Joints a little stiffer, needing some repetitive flexion and extension to self-lubricate. We are working machines that need time to rest and allow maintenance to our parts. Frost's own way to humble us while leaving the hint to exude gratitude, for all things, even those we tend to overlook or forget.

Frost, so bittersweet.

A cherry nose, and rosy cheeks too, from the cold or from the cheer, this the depiction wrote of all those years ago describing Ol' Saint Nick. Just maybe Mr. Moore intended this, as in New York, and most the northwest hemisphere he knew of, was rather cold during the holidays, so each of us were this depiction and the spirit of the holidays lived in, and continues to live in, each and every one of us. We are the collective of Saint Nicholas, and when our dream of Santa dies we must continue the dream for those after.

Oh this time of year, so bittersweet.

The memories of past holidays and loved ones rise to the surface again, boiling our hearts with the warmth of all that love and pain. Memories they cycle through and give us the strength, to do the right things, to spread the love to those close and those in need, and to host the best get together yet. Because the vintage hued frames hold the secrets of love, laughter and memory making.

Bittersweet indeed, but balance is key and when we remember how it was, we unlock who we can be: caring and sharing and kind. So, to the holiday season, thank you for the rewind. We will make the most of this time :)
