Why Do My Tears Not Freeze

Are tears just like salt water

Why Do My Tears Not Freeze

Outside the world is cold and hard

the wind cuts sharp against the skin

ice forms on windowpanes and roads

but still my tears run warm and slow

I watch them fall and wonder why

when all around is frozen stiff

my pain won’t harden into stone

my heart won’t lock away the hurt

The frost can’t reach inside my bones

where sadness sits and won’t let go

no winter chill can stop the flood

that comes without a warning sound

Maybe tears are meant to flow

to wash the weight of grief away

to soften cracks inside the soul

so healing can begin again

So while the cold stays out my door

my tears still fall and clear the pain

No matter frost or winter’s grip

my tears won’t freeze or hide inside

they flow to keep me whole and real

to carry what I cannot hide

Lovely poem, Marie. These were great lines: "Maybe tears are meant to flow to wash the weight of grief away" There is nothing lie ac good cry to purge your soul of hurtful and sad feelings.
