When Lilacs bloom

Bringing light and beauty to our world.

When lilacs bloom

The world blossoms in beauty and magnificence

When soft, pale, purple-violet hues unfurl into rich lilac splendor

And deep red-violet awakens, as if being born anew

Then you will know; lovely, glorious lilacs are in bloom today

Oh, how I wish I were the Syringa Lilac, gracefully flowering beneath the warm healing sun

I am oleaceae. My slender flowering olive branches reach up lovingly

Wishing fervently, reaching, yearning to touch the blueness of the sky

In temperate climes you may find me growing wild and free

Genus Syringa meets Ligustrum Privet, find us growing side by side

Oleaceae tribus, Oleeaa subtribus Ligustrinae, are all my relations out here in the wild

Lepidoptera copper underwings dine on my lovely foodplant buds

My fragrant flowers are harvested for your perfumed pleasures

Delicate bouquets of my lilacs will titillate your senses

Do plant me by your front door

Ensuring positivity within your redolent abode

Negativity never then will be yours to entertain

My fragrant Lilacs bloom splendidly in mid to late spring

Enjoy lilac's pleasures, but be aware of timing and variety

Lilacs oftentimes and sometimes differ in moments of maturity

Spring in Rochester, New York, finds a lilac Festival abounding

Worldwide crowds gather, as they walk through clouds of lilac's delicate perfumed glory

Come, be enchanted by perfumes of the present year

But be aware, I only display my beauty for a short while

After the festival, after the parade is over

Kindly remember the Bloomerang and White lilacs

White lilac

Keep our memory of the sweet aromatic loveliness close to your hearts

Bloomerang

Until next year when we meet again to savor spring's lilac-filled delights

Enjoy the floral grandiloquence of a lilac scented world.

Your poem brought lilacs to the air here a little north of New York City, even though they haven't bloomed as yet.

Lilacs were a huge part of spring while I was on the prairies, on the west coast not so much. I do miss them, thank you for bringing back such fond memories

Lovely! My childhood home had several lilac trees of various shades from white to deep burgundy purple. The fragrance is divine and a sure sign of spring. Occasionally the lily of the valley was still in bloom and my mother would make beautiful bouquets using them both.

  • Lilac is my favorite color. I enjoyed this poem.
