Stubborn resistance
Or just luck, holding on
Piece de resistance
When everything’s gone
A fragile existence
Hanging out on a limb
Determined persistence
Branching beyond a whim
Barely surviving
One with the elements
Wild roots that keep climbing
Clinging to sentiments
It’s beauty a wonder
It’s strength, becoming testament
Succeeding while under
The pressures of pain’s unrest
Still, what’s lovely remains
Hanging there, in the balance
Keeping the unsung, sane
Exceeding life’s challenge
Giving one final reason
For me to withstand
The change of the season
Embracing who I am

Oooo, this was sooo deep! Loved your poem!
This is a way to look at life. Good job.
I really like how you infused self-love in this poem in the face of adversity and loss. Your line: Still, what’s lovely remains Hanging there, in the balance… works perfectly with the poem’s theme and the picture you selected. Really beautiful and thought-provoking poetry, Kelli. The pic reminds me of the O’Henry story The Last Leaf. It’s beautiful.
Love!! Succeeding while under!
“Clinging to sentiments” 🙏🏻🙌🏻 great line, love this resilient poem.
Well-wrought! Was the poem inspired by the picture or did you select the picture after writing the poem? They compliment each other perfectly!
Lovely Kelli. Sometimes just hanging in there is all it takes.
