What color is…? / ¿De qué color es …?
Show your true colors
That’s what they all say
But what do you say
When your little one asks, one day…
“What color are you?”
¿De qué color es …?
One of my son’s favorite questions when we are exploring
And while we look around he asks
What color is…
And fills in the blank with just about anything
The questions came and all I would say are basic colors, you know
Until one day the questions kept coming so I gave different answers, he’d know
Him: What color are you ...What color is your skin?
I: Cafe but like golden cinnamon
Him: What color is her skin?
I: Cafe but like tanish sand, dark
Him: What color is his skin?
I: Cafe but like dry autumn leaves
Him: What color is their skin?
I: 2 Cafes but like a blended tree bark
Now it’s my turn to ask him
What’s up with the question?
Not yet 5, he asks another, for the win
Him:
“What people are black and what people are white?
… because I do not see them
There is none in sight
You say that you're brown, and he is brown and she is brown
But I just see people when we are walking around
We read lots of stories
I see lots of people in all of my books
I love how they show people caring about others no matter their color or looks
But why don’t people live like they care about people no matter their color or looks
Can't we all just love one another, in real life not only books
If my color is
brown
and
their color is
black, red, yellow, blue, green, purple, orange or white
I hope people will still treat me right
I:
No person is black and no person is white
Those are just labels created
To make an “us versus them” fight
I say that I’m brown, and he is brown and she is brown
Because I see people’s different colors when we are walking around
I write lots of stories
I draw lots of people in all of my books
I love to show people caring about others no matter their color or looks
But why don’t people live like they care about people no matter their color or looks?
I know we can all love one another, in real life not only in books
If my color is brown
And
Your color is brown
I know we will always treat everyone right
