Wanderlust
It’s a kind of love
Between the chase and the rush
Of the laughter and the fun
And the instability of not knowing
what’s to come
It’s a different kind of freedom that these things bring.
Why do we do it, what are we doing?
It’s chasing sunsets and sunrises
Waking up early
Heaviness on our eyelids
Caffeinated
And exhausted all the time
The awe of nature
Dropping us into silence
And in that moment, we realise why we exist:
To live.
The more we see, the more we be
And we breathe
But our breath is taken away by the scenes
Until we’re so dizzy, so dizzy
From adrenaline and dopamine
What are we?
Part of it all, beings, breathing, living.
And we’re working non-stop in every moment
But we’re working to live
A life that’s not normal
One where we call the shots
And make the calls
And we wake into not knowing
What the day will bring
But that’s the beauty of this whole thing
Choosing a path that’s a little bit different
And although we pay the price of feeling homesick
A lot of the time
We gain the rewards of expanding our minds
By broadening our horizon
And enjoying the view
And making every moment
one that’s completely new
Learning a profound appreciation
For this world we call home
But home is also inside our own souls
But by knowing that
You crave understanding more,
Because how else can you grow
And you learn that whenever you go,
You can turn inward while looking out
And that’s where you’ll eternally find home.
