To hear our fantastical tale
We guarantee to tickle your ear
With the story, we have to tell
In the distant future, in a time that will be called the After
When our history decides to stop, start over, and repeat
Inside a worldly kingdom ruled by a King Nafter
Running through the castle, Princess Ingrit, none too sweet

Hither and thither
Yon and yonder
Servants in a dither
A princess left to her own devices does wonder
Nanny after nanny leaves her post
Unable to handle the antics played
The princess knows she is smarter than most
Her plans are well-laid

Princess Ingrit wondering about
Comes across a closed room
Boarded up, locking everyone out
Curiosity piqued, interest in full bloom
Gaining entry a number one goal
The princess thought long and hard
Looking behind an old tapestry, a hole
Stepping through to the other side, on guard

To a room stacked to the rafters with books
Ancient books from the Before, some too crumbly
As she walks among the stacks, taking a look
A book falls off, reading the title, “Ventriloquism for Dummies”
With interest, she opens the covers and begins to read
Completely amazed, she turns the page
The things she learns seem simple indeed
She starts practicing as if she plans to go on the stage

The princess has a lot of work ahead of her
If she wants to be good enough to fool anyone
It may take some time, sure
Afterward, she would look for a special toad.

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
