Undulating Highs and Lows
Life on a tightrope

Turmoil, frozen in situ,
Glacial impacts stutter on hold,
Shivers run from spine to mind,
As a heartbeat breaks the barriers foretold.
**
Roars sound from the echo chambers,
A knock on effect from days past,
Serious thoughts roll with the punches,
An absence finally taken to task.
**
Nothing pleads with the bleakness of night,
Darkness not a friend for a change,
A breath of fresh air begging to be heard,
Painful reminders; a meeting of the deranged.
**
A lesson in peace missing from the chart,
Navigation fraught with danger,
Whispers heard from the north of yesterday,
On a chance of support from a total stranger.
**
Fears beckon the call of the wild,
A telephone call delays the onslaught,
Lost in the stars that no longer shine,
Was it all serendipitously caught?
**
The chest heaves as it chokes a sob,
Each tear filled with unimaginable stress,
Although it cleanses the soul of sorrow,
It’s nothing more than a contrived test.
**
Bitch-slapped into tomorrow,
Ears twerked for the lack of hearing,
A chest squeezed tight on a gust of laughter,
Insanity undercover; the memories screaming and cheering.
**
Sleep soothes the minefield,
Battles on hold while waiting for the dawn,
Ugly crying in a fit of melancholy,
A spirit drenched in wisdom, bracing the storm.
**
A hand held tight,
Fighting for life; a flicker periodically dies,
Come way too far, rejecting the possibility to return,
The entire ordeal based upon a barrage of lies!
About the Creator
Colleen Millsteed
My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Super surreal!!! A roller coaster ride, amazing!!!❤️❤️💕
Oooo, north of yesterday, I especially loved that!
Such a powerful, emotion filled rode, excellent as always!
Whoa, this one takes you on a ride! A storm of emotions, raw and relentless, yet beautifully crafted. Those highs and lows hit hard, like a gut-punch and a lullaby rolled into one. Absolutely gripping!
