When The Decision Was Made

The consequences of one’s actions

Just a few weeks before Christmas, the chips fell where they lay,

A hasty message was sent in anger, giving her no opportunity to respond,

Blocked — access denied!

His wrath thrown down across the distance,

In classic stupidity style.

******

A week of cowardice ensued, the gauntlet thrown down,

He thought he held the upper hand,

Isn’t he in for a surprise?

He corked the bottle on communication,

Effectively cutting her off at the knees!

******

Left to her own devices, she gave it considerable thought,

He stopped her from voicing her opinion, her concerns,

Disrespected her on every level,

While writing disparaging comments on her wall,

Bringing the world into his one-sided conversation.

******

She realised the futility of her efforts and took the plunge,

Spoke to a professional and put all her ducks in a row,

Over the course of the week in which he’d silenced her voice,

Plans where laid, paperwork completed,

The future forever changed!

******

He brought it upon himself,

That cannot be denied,

He made a choice and now the consequences need to be faced,

His actions fell upon the death bed,

One of his own making.

******

That’s a fact he’ll now need to live with,

Until the end of his days,

She deserved better as her future will show,

She’s open to the possibilities of something new,

Although she’ll not settle for anything less than she now knows she is due.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
