Twirling, Falling Autumn Leaves

A poem to celebrate the arrival of autumn

Dark orange, crimson, and gold

leaves of oak, maple, and birch

blowing in the wind

A gust of wind, crisp and cool

sends the leaves twirling down

purple, brown, and yellow

twirling to the ground like dancers

 A crimson leaf falls first

it's color, deep red, fiery and dark

Next, an dark orange leave drifts down

the color of the burning flame of a campfire

A lone leaf now hangs on the maple tree

A dark and vibrant golden yellow

matching the color of goldenrods

blowing against the wind

Soon, its time will come

that change is inevitable

to drift on down with the others

with the other autumn leaves
