Tranquility

or, Driving thru Washoe

My mother says;

“I’ve decided that your sister got my mannerisms and YOU got my sarcasm, so then, what did your brother end up with?”

I told her, “Your tranquility, I guess?”

“But, I’m not tranquil.” She says.

“Well, maybe he got ALL of it then?” I respond, staring out across Washoe Lake with her in the drivers seat.

She’s driving me back to the Gospel Mission in Reno

and she pulls a single strand of her own hair out of her mouth

and says that she has my fathers phone number if I want to call him.

I would get it from her later, I told her

with A Bic pen wedge in my ear as it always is.
