Pigeon is a French word that derives from the Latin pīpiō, for a 'peeping' chick, while dove is ultimately a Germanic word, possibly referring to the bird's diving flight.
Also known as the American mourning dove, the rain dove, the chueybird, and colloquially as the turtle dove, this bird was once known as the Carolina pigeon and Carolina turtledove.

Doves are pretty. My dad loved watching doves. Great haiku, Bill <3
Glorious work Bill!
The cooing of the doves alone or in pairs always reminds me that life comes and goes. Good work.
I love how you captured the dove’s timeless symbolism of peace, innocence, and love in such a simple yet powerful way. 🕊️
