through the new mexico night

a poem

By Muriel ArdisPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

waking up in the back seat

from the sudden braking

to see an antelope jumping

for her life across the highway

white horse riding

lightning rising with scorched earth

burnt sienna everywhere i look

barbed wire surrounding so

did you mess up the tension

the freshest expression

so tender yet so blessed

when reaching for a dead or withering rose

one must not forget that a thorn still has the anatomy

to pierce through many skins

and produce blood containing many reds

so we resist and circumvent

the situations that suggest suede

surreptitious, we rapture the pasture

my master rattling with his tools on the belt

attrition

a panoply of idolatry

oh darling how the honey hangs

against a greased dogma

pragmatic patriarch

harmony in severance

under a serpent’s trance

ecstatic dance in elastic pants

nature poetry
