There Will Come Sharp Pains
A Parody - With profound apologies to Sara Teasdale
There will come sharp pains and the smell of Bengay™,
And old knees creaking as we wobble and sway;
And kids in the park laughing at us,
And too many steps up to the bus;
Buzzards will circle above our heads,
Awaiting the day we forget meds;
The Boomers - the Ancients, we once ruled,
And made sure the Gen-ers were well-schooled;
Time has bent us, we've been dented,
And some of our teeth are cemented;
And when we make our exits, quietly,
You'll be the old farts that we used to be.

Just more weirdness from my addled old brain.

Great piece, Dana! My parents are boomers and they certainly made sure this millennial was well schooled, haha!
Feels like a lesson in kindness to others, mixed with a warning that our "time" will come soon too!! Thanks for aging gracefully Dana! 😉
"You'll be the old farts we used to be" That is a lesson more people need to learn! I'm only 26 but I feel ancient, worn down and world-weary. This was a brilliant poem, and a fantastic parody of one of the most heart-crushing poems from that book!
Oh how I loved this! Started off feeling depressed and ended up laughing 😂
I'm gen x and feel I'm entering codger territory at times now.
Oh, yeah. I laugh at the youngsters who think they know it all and believe us old folks are as cool as a luke warm beer. They have no idea who we are and what we are capable of. Old indeed!
Ha Dana! This was brill!
Yup. Right there with you, my friend.
Loved this weirdness!!!♥♥♥
Love this one!
