The Trouble with Forgetting
sometimes it's impossible

I want to forget you
to completely erase every detail
of your skin, of your lips
that curve their way through my mind
I want to no longer wish
it was your mouth against mine
when I’m kissing another
I want to no longer feel the butterflies
swarming inside my stomach
every time I hear your name
I want to no longer crave
the smell of you on my clothes
I want to not waste any more tears
because I can’t afford the cost
I want my pen to bleed myself
and not automatically write your name
I want to forget the spelling of your tongue
the language of your body
how your hands spoke on my skin
I want to forget
and forget
until I no longer have to remind myself
to not want you
because right now
I can’t really seem to make myself not to
