Miss Adelina

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 4 hours ago 1 min read

Verse 1

freedom is a ball and chain,

draggin’ through the mud and bone

lookin’ from the inside out,

can you hear the shadows calling you home

every choice is just another crooked road,

every truth sharpened with lies

and the spirits in the rafters

knows the day you’re gonna die

Chorus

so come on, Miss Adelina,

lay down the golden rule

etch your mark across my mind

and tell me what I’m s’posed to do

Verse 2

I was wearin’ a flag of cares

when I staggered into this town

and the white doves split my skull wide open,

let my thoughts spill on the ground

tried to gather what was left,

but the dark took half away

now they whisper in the corners

where the dead men kneel and pray

Chorus

so come on, Miss Adelina,

lay down the golden rule

etch your mark across my mind

and tell me what I’m s’posed to do

Verse 3

some say close your eyes real tight

when the world begins to spin

but the ones who shut ’em early

never opened ’em again

you can be my seein’-eye dog

’til the danger’s crawled on through

and I’ll follow where you lead me,

even if it’s hell you choose

Chorus

so come on, Miss Adelina,

lay down the golden rule

etch your mark across my mind

and tell me what I’m s’posed to do

Repeat Verse 1

freedom is a ball and chain,

draggin’ through the mud and bone

lookin’ from the inside out,

hear the shadows call you home

Final Chorus

so come on, Miss Adelina,

lay down the golden rule

etch your mark across my mind

and tell me what I’m s’posed to do

Please jus tell me what I’m s’posed to do
