The Pause

Transition into Fall

I step out

into a world set in amber,

silent as the grave,

and still.

~

Not a single

gold-tinted leaf stirs.

No melodious calls

meet my ear.

~

Life takes respite

in a grand, golden moment,

while I watch

in awe, transfixed.

~

Softly,

a cool breeze kisses my cheek,

as Earth exhales

the scent of apples.

~

Slowly,

gold gives way to blue

and the world wakes

and I smile.

~

Autumn has arrived.

***

This one was inspired by my morning trek into the back yard for a look at the weather and such.

Sadly, I missed Mike Singleton-Mikey Dred's August Dollar Prompt. Fortunately, Mike created another one for September. Take a look, and add your own to the fun, (Thanks, Mike!):

I struggle with the loss of summer (even in the UK where we haven't really had one yet this year) but such a beautiful written poem almost makes me embrace the Fall with some joyousness. Almost. But absolutely NOT. Great poem though Dana! 😊😊😊

I'd have seen it clearly, even without the picture you chose 😁

So beautifully written. You use such vivid imagery that a picture of fall immediately comes into my mind. Love it...❀️

  • So perfectly expressed; finesse is your first name!

Gorgeous! iI love the use of 'silent as the grave' - it gives that imagery of the quiet death of autumn! Brilliantly done!!

Oh, this reminds me how I love autumn too! This beautiful season often called as a transition from summer to winter, but sadly not every one of us get to experience this autumn vibe. Here in Europe it's mostly just rain and mud, and huge puddles with full of leaves... not cozy at all😣

Creeps up on us like that doesn't it. All the signs are there, but then suddenly there's this moment...

This is gorgeous. I especially love "a cool breeze kisses my cheek, as Earth exhales the scent of apples." I can smell it. Great work, my friend.
