the narcissus bulbs
A breakup love poem
How’s it feel to think you’re God (but be)
mere mortal? The narcissus bulbs you
planted didn’t sprout.
The squirrels must have eaten them…
narcissistic aura in my
garden loses power,
worth,
and clout.

Author's Note: "Narcissus" is a genus of bulb plant that includes daffodils.
The fact that "narcissus" almost appears to be the word "narcissist" is not a coincidence. In Greek mythology, Narcissus became enamored with his reflection. It is said he lives on forever as a flower - his punishment for being obsessed with himself.

Oh wow, just read your afterward and was about to comment on that line about the narcissist’s bulbs not growing. I had no idea they were a flower too. 😃
That's one of the stories from school that stuck with me. :) Excellent poem!
This is so good. I love your poem and the inspiration behind it!
Awesome!!! Love it!!!❤️❤️💕
The narcissus bulbs/you planted didn’t sprout - wow!! Love that. Best of luck in the challenge ♥
Wow, this was very cool. Love the word usage.
Oh, I love how this one turned out!! Very cool play on words for this one, my friend :)
*And bam!* New info added to my memory. I was also kinda obsessed with the word narcissistic nowadays because it also comes in the song cry by Benson Boone. I think you should check it out; its a really good song. Just like your poetry.
Wow! This is so beautiful and poignant with layered meaning. As always, your language is evocative and inspiring. Gorgeous. 💗💓
