The Mysteries of the Moon
For the Letters to the Moon Challenge
Dear Moon,
I used to look up at you in awe of your light
I knew how you worked
That your light was but a reflection
But still, I liked to imagine
That you were so much more—
Because you were
You pushed and pulled the tides
You influenced our moods
You predicted births and destinies
(Even if it’s just based on our beliefs)
You gave us hope on the darkest nights
You made us believe that there’s so much more
To the universe, to ourselves, than what we can see
You were Luna, the Roman goddess
You were Selene, the Greek goddess
You were a million gods and goddesses
Across a million religions all over the world
All rolled up into one beautiful, glowing entity
You were the sun, reflected—
A celestial body I could stare at without being blinded by your magnificence
You were Sister and Mother, all rolled into one
You were the promise of safety and danger at the same time
I still look up at you in awe of your light
Though many of your mysteries were revealed to me long ago
For there are still many yet to discover
And I, for one, hope they are never known
Yours Always and Forever,
Your Dutiful Acolyte

Nice. Your poem embodies humanity's forever fascination with Earth's sole natural satellite.
Gorgeous! Good luck in the challenge!
Your writing perfectly balances mythology and emotion. It reminds us why the Moon continues to enchant humanity, even after its mysteries have been studied for centuries.
Gosh this was so beautifully crafted. Loved your poem!
beautifully said, taking time to see the beauty masked by dark
I agree - well done, Stephanie!💖💕💗
The moon plays many roles, Stephanie, as you beautifully put. We take her so much for granted! And I like the Jekyll and Hyde idea...that she is both a place of safety and danger. Well done!
