Prometheus’s Fire
For the Last Flame Challenge
Prometheus’s fire is going out
After thousands of years alight
After thousands of years of bringing us wisdom
It is finally giving up the fight
* * *
Prometheus’s fire is dimming
The cause to it is clear—
Our willful ignorance and misinformation
Is bringing the darkness here
* * *
Prometheus’s fire is going out
And we’re the only ones to blame—
With each book banning and silenced educator
We stifle more of the flame
* * *
Prometheus’s fire is dimming
And we are plunging into darkness
Some of us willingly, some of us forced
Into the Dark Ages’ blackness
* * *
Prometheus’s fire is going out
And we have no way to stop it
Unless we find a way to reign in the uptick
Of the mental suppressors and the ignorant

Why must you fuel my existential dread before bed?!? Great poem.
