The Moon Took Mars

The moon took Mars, I watched it go

no sound, no light, just hush and glow

a slip behind that silver face

no rush, no fight, no need for grace

The sky held still, the stars stood back

a quiet theft on midnight’s track

Mars didn’t flare, it didn’t cry

just gave itself to passersby

What makes a god go out like that

not burned, not torn, not even flat

just gone behind a softer wall

no blaze, no war, no pride to fall

Some nights the dark has more to say

than words that fall or drift away

and when the moon decides to steal

you learn how small the strong can feel

Thank good it was illusion

it just looked like that from here

no planet or moon got damage

just a show to make us stare
