the moon

the giver of light

By Mallory NicholsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

why do we describe beauty as compared to the sun?

the sun is greedy with her beauty

hurting those who want to look at her

she burns those who love her and blinds those who admire her

yet we say, “he looked at her like she was the sun”

the moon, however, shares her beauty

she shines in the night sky

sharing the blanket of darkness with the stars

she reflects off of the lakes, casting silver light on the few who love her

smiling down on us who wish she would stay with us

we should say, “he looked at her like she was the moon”
