I've been sleeping with the blinds open

as seen in the auburn circle

By Mallory NicholsPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I’ve been sleeping with the blinds open,

So the sun may come in and shine

On my bookshelf with too many books,

A miniature carousel, and a bust of David

Wearing a cowboy hat.

I’ve been sleeping with the blinds open

To remind myself to wake up.

There is life

out there for me

And I must go live it.

I’ve been sleeping with the blinds open,

So the frat house next door

Reminds me I’m not alone.

Friends cannot be made

if the blinds are closed.

I’ve been sleeping with the blinds open

To let the light in at morning time.

For the darkness cannot stay unless

I let it.

I’ve been sleeping with the blinds open,

So when my thoughts wake me up again

At sunrise, I can see the cotton candy

Clouds against the fading dark

Sky and remember there is beauty

Out there and I will miss it if I

Sleep with the blinds closed.
