Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi is known for his clever writing. That is right. He is among the best Indian writers in today’s market. Indian writers are creative, imaginative, and sometimes native. They have this uncanny ability to bring out the picture loud & clear.

Except that writers like Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi can bring out volumes with their writing. That is exactly what his latest book, The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay is all about. The book was written by a noted author, Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi and has all the elements that only a few contemporary fiction authors of his cadre can command.

They include Loss, tragedy, sex, crime, politics, erotic, friendship and also love. Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi loves to embed everything into a single book. This was quite noted in his earlier works, The Last Song of Dusk & The Rabbit and the Squirrel.

The fiction paperback authored by Siddharth Shanghvi is about the financial capital of India, Bombay or Mumbai as it is known today. The literary work is about Karan Seth, who is a small-town boy.

Like everybody, he wants to make it big in the metropolis of dreams in India, Bombay. He specialises in urban photography and has an assignment to photograph the reclusive, eccentric Samar Arora.

Though the assignment seemed impossible for Karan at the beginning, he somehow managed it. Karan manages to strike a cordial note with Samar. He then gets invited into the inner circle society life of Samar.

There is his boyfriend Leo, a movie star Zaira, who is a very popular actor.

Likewise, Karan also meets Rhea Dalal. Rhea is a housewife, who is bored with her life, and needs a spark. They both become good friends and lovers as well. Zaira, who is a popular actor, has a stalker, Malik Prasad.

Malik Prasad, unfortunately, is the son of a powerful minister of the Hindu People’s Party. Karan finds that he is lost in a series of dilemmas. As a result of that, he decides to flee to the UK. This is when the novel takes a sharp turn.

Karan accepts that he has to come back to his city of old dreams one day and face the reality. It speaks about the love, friendship, betrayal, and various powers at play. The book has some characteristic writing by the author. Readers will get a chance to wade through the smart writing and a large helping of profusion of adjectives.

The author through his book has provided readers with a very radical view of life in Bombay. However, there is some harsh truth in that as well. It exposes the corruption that lies beneath and runs efficiently through the fabric of Indian life. The good news is that the good always triumphs over evil.

About the author
