The In-Between

For Vocal’s Somewhere Between Here and There Challenge

Red and orange branches overhead

Light trickling in through heavenly halos

Leaves spiraling all around

The musty smell of change in the air

The path before me splits infinitely

No way of knowing which one to take

My internal compass broken long ago

No way of returning from where I came

Darkness shrouding my way back home

Tempted to stay in this eternal state

Of in-between and perpetual change

But what kind of life can I live

Stuck on pause, with no way forward?

Not one you would want for me—

So I take one step forward

And another

And another

As the light around me fades

Setting on another day

This gave me Robert Frost vibes. I felt like I was standing at those crossroads with you having to make that tough decision. Very well written.

  • We gotta always try to keep moving forward. Loved your poem!

So beautifully reflective. The imagery of autumn perfectly mirrors that feeling of being at a crossroads.
