Author’s Note: You can’t read this poem without listening to Billy Joel’s beautiful song Piano Man, so I’ve included a link below.
She turns on her phone
And skims to the song
That she’s played so many times before
That Apple Music has marked it with a dot
She clicks the title—
Piano Man—
And lets the melody take her away
As her body drifts and gently sways
And dances the day away
And she sings the words she barely knows
In an off-key tune that would normally drive her wild
And she ignores her audience of several dogs
Not caring what they might think
Or even if a human walked in
For she’d already sunk herself in deep
And she’s carried away by the carnival
That is the piano’s tune
Away from her worries, if just for a while
Without a drop of the worrisome booze
Then the song comes to a slow end
Wrapping itself up and dimming her stage
She feels the pressure of the world coming down again
So she instantly hits replay

Just putting on some music can change your whole day. Nice piece.
Lovely poem about the power of a good song. This song a a cool tune to it, that flows and take you away. That makes you feel free. Your poem describes it so well.
Lovely words, and it is one of the Billy Joel songs I like
