The Idiot’s Guide to Sentience Oblivion

You won’t know how it feels

Only one basic instruction…

Stop fighting

Easy

while institutional/economic/pharmaceutical multi-factorials

converge a mechanistic mass

of complex operations

that fuel human existence

strip you down for parts

Inject a permanent anesthetic

Pre-programmed playback

may sound soothing

convincing even

since

“You’re comprehensively exhausted anyway…

…don’t need new prescription glasses

to read the fine print

review the T’s & C’s

account updates and alterations

where signatures are now obsolete

Biometrics the breeze

got fingerprint/retinal scans/DNA

all stored securely of course

They got this

i.e., aforementioned presences redundant and irrelevant”

Human resource management

taken to next-level specificity

Convenience/practicality/professionalism

"Not to worry

We can set up another direct debit

(without you)

Round the tally

up to an even forty

You seem worn-out-tired

Stop struggling

And I promise

you won’t feel a thing

Stop resisting

Truly unnecessary

since your peace of mind

is a premium package deal discounted

at the special rate of $1899/month"

Social engagement facilitated through Microsoft Teams

cardio-plus fitness classes online

self-care outsourced overseas

hair/nails/full body massage/season play-offs and drinks with the fellas

set patterns sans deviations on a fixed loop

No thought/no negotiations/no planning/no cancellations/no refunds

Stop fighting

Stop being opinionated-vigilant-proactive-productive-pragmatic

available

artistic

an advocate

Stop being so damned concerned

Stop being invested-involved

Just stop being

They’ll do you for you

They’ll do you better than you

Guaranteed not to feel-smell-taste-touch-hear a blessed thing

Easy

Sweet seamlessness

Just

stop the

squirming/pushback/fight against

oblivion

I got MAJOR thanks for you in successfully reading some of the weirdest of my ramblings!

I would say there's a special pin for you to wear, but there isn't. You have my undying gratitude, which is waaay better!

My friend, this is ***AWESOME***!!! There are so many great poems that have placed in this challenge and this is among the Best of the Best. It's absolutely **unique**. 'Stop fighting' is a theme seen in a lot of entries but everything else about your approach is unusual compared to the rest-- strange and extraordinary. And you know what I think I like best? The title (and subtitle!) I was scrolling through the winners and I saw your title and went, "Ooo!" You had captivated me before I read the first word of your poem! I hope all is well with you. Sending Love & Light from America! This is greatly deserving of the recognition! ⚡💙⚡

Naah, I am not leaving without that pin. Just kidding. This was awesome. The world is definitely built on complex operations that fuel human existence. Sometimes I think it's complex on purpose. Yes... Even though all these things like all the stuff from the pharmaceuticals... are there for what they are not... ...But it's okay though because like you said, they want us to stop resisting. Never mind the convenience of redundancy... 'They'll do you for you, they'll do you better than you' no truer words have been said. Fantastic work as always Dani 🤗❤️

Such an uncomfortably clever read!! I’m both laughing and nervously checking if my biometric data is already “securely stored” somewhere…. 🫠

  • Ah man, I really thought there was a special pin, lol. Loved your take on this challenge!

Stop being opinionated-vigilant-proactive-productive-pragmatic sounds like the way we are really going.

  • What an interesting read. It’s like taking the “you” away in order to be a version of you. Maybe control of an autocratic government?
