the human experience in action

a self portrait in the works

By Imani AndwelePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

"polychromatic disarray"

is one way to describe

20 years' worth of paint splatters and brushstrokes

that have turned into something

that resembles an unfinished pollock.

enigmatic at first glance,

but if you look closely

and carefully scan every inch of this experience in progress,

you can see

pink lines that are dedicated to the people i love,

frenzied splashes of orange from daily bouts of anxious pondering,

yellows from elation,

blues from low serotonin,

a green dot for every time i've reminded myself that everything will be okay (if not now, soon),

impasto red from the memories i wish i could forget,

and watercolor purple from the memories i wish i could remember.

when the paint has eventually run out,

frame me and hang me up on a wall.

let me be an example of an abstract individual,

a life well lived.
