Life's joys are ephemeral, lie the Gingerbread man.-Michelle Liew

This is for Poppy's Prompt #12

*******************************

Assembled on a plate, I smile with pride

Browned, nicely crisped, sweet icing applied

Crafted to perfection, a yuletide treat,

Delighting the tastebuds, gone by the night

*******************************

Each bite brings ephemeral cheer

For a time, there are no tears

Golden succulence, with each fresh bite

Held in warm hands, temporal delight

*******************************

I ponder, as my crumbs drift away

Just how long my memory will stay.

Kisses so sweet fade all too fast

Like the snowman outside- it will not last

*******************************

My taste may linger, but even it fades,

Nothing is free from life’s great cage

Our greatest pleasures, delicate, brief

Precious moments that bring relief

*******************************

Quiet reflection: Why hanker what won’t remain?

Rather than fret, embrace today’s refrain

Savour my crispness while it is near

Time turns the now to yesteryear.

*******************************

Under my icy grin, I whisper what’s true

Value my fleeting, gingery hue

While I may leave, my story will stay

Xperience my joy, come what may

*******************************

You cannot clasp in what time will take

Zeal for the present is what memorles make.

This was a nice, tender abecedarian poem. I like how it starts off describing the physical attributes of the gingerbread man and then turns towards a deeper matter. My favorite line in particular is “Time turns the now to yesteryear”. Well done.
