The Frost of Mint

Frosted Verse Challenge Entry

By Cindy CalderPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

In the birth of winter’s finely dusted chill

Sumptuous, swirling steam fills the frosty air

Tickling the nose as it rises and tantalizes,

An aromatic elixir of ice and heat well-paired,

Marrying the mind’s reflection and repose

Whilst you sip, with nary a worry or a care.

❄️

Finding promises of pleasure for body and soul

Richly embodied in depths of minty tea’s delight

Ripples ‘cross tastebuds, igniting full senses

In a taste of landscapes painted pearly white.

Outside children, skates, and sleighs rise to frolic

Amidst armed soldiers of valiant snowball fights.

❄️

Laughter drifts over iced ponds to whisper

Echoing a thrill of wintry frosted delight

While from the hearth, the red blaze warms

Against explosion of the Arctic's creeping might,

The bold taste of mint lingers on lips and teases

Like fire enraptured within winter's icy plight.

The mint. It’s all about the mint and what it does with sensations. Heat. Brilliant.

This poem is a beautiful ode to winter. The imagery is vivid and the language is evocative, painting a picture of a cozy winter scene. The poet skillfully captures the sensory experience of sipping a warm cup of mint tea, contrasting it with the cold winter outside. The poem evokes a sense of peace and tranquility, making it a truly delightful read.

Loving the use of mint in this one! It's under used as a condiment I feel. In foods and apparently, in poems!

This has a really Christmassy feel to it, and the addition of the mint really makes it crackle.
