The forest prepares
Haiku-sequence poem depicting the mood of autumn and forest animals preparing for winter.

Haiku-sequence poem depicting the mood of autumn and forest animals preparing for winter.
---
The Sun disappears,
Branches lose their leaves,
The forest prepares.
***
Squirrels climb on trees,
Nuts held tight in tiny paws,
The forest prepares.
***
Rabbits hop on grass,
Burrows warm with lots of hay,
The forest prepares.
***
Fox walks in the dusk,
He looks for prey, no one there.
The forest stays still.
***
Owls wake with the Moon,
Ready to fly in the night,
The forest prepares.
***
Birds fly rapidly,
Calling to migrating flocks,
The trees wave goodbye.
***
Deer walk calm and slow,
Dew and mist on their antlers.
The forest prepares.
***
Winter waits, calm, near,
Every heart ready for sleep,
The forest prepares.

A/N: The forest prepares with care, teaching that slowing down, storing up, and finding warmth are part of life’s rhythm. Watching the creatures of the forest move with such purpose makes me love this season even more.

Wonderful sequence that told the story of how the forest lays up for winter. Congratulations on the top story
Lovely work Susan. Animals and the seasons. Brilliant. Congrats.
I wish I was this prepared. Well done!
Novel, and incredibly difficult to pull off. Haikus aren't easy as standalones let alone as drivers of a poetic narrative. Props!
Ach, this is just beautiful, Susan. First and foremost, love the image that provided inspiration! We have deer round our way that are not too bothered, it seems by humans, if you get close enough to them without posing a threat. But, still beautiful to see. Secondly, your haiku sequence is just splendid. Love the imagery and the flow. Stunning work, really. Congrats on Top Story - it's fully deserved.
Wonderful nature haiku sequaence
Well done. I love haiku sequences and you've done an excellent job on this one. Congrats on Top Story!

Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
Beautiful. This is one of those I wish could be read to me, because the imagery is so good. Well done and congratulations on getting top story
No wonder it's the top story. Thank you for the lovely walk through the seasons.
never thought of the change of seasons like that. wonderful and congrats on TS.
oops, congrats on Top Story, too!!
Great!! my fave lines are the trees say goodbye and dew and mist on antlers.
You took this photo? It looks fantastic. Loving their spots and the fact that there are three in the photo, is so satisfying. #3 is my favourite number. The first haiku I love how it introduces how the forest prepares. The repeat of the forest prepares and the imagery of the squirrels tiny paws goes perfectly. I like the change in the last line when the fox got introduced. Awe that's lovely. The trees waving goodbye to the birds migrating 😍 Every heart ready for sleep ~ the forest prepares. Perfect note to leave it on. Congratulations on your top story Susan 🎉🎉🤗❤️
Love the way you create a feeling of consciousness on the part of the forest. Well done and great cover photo too
Excellent work Susan! Nicely-written!
So beautiful and amazing ❤️😊🌞nature has answers to most of the beings
Wonderful poetry Susan. I read this in two words. First I read each haiku on its own. Then I went and read all the haiku as a cohesive work. Each haiku stands on its own as a complete work but then when you put them together it becomes this wonderful and beautiful picture of how the wilderness is beginning its preparation for autumn. Absolutely fantastic work Susan. This is top notch.
I enjoyed your poem , easy word and nice repetition
Such a serene and lovely sequence.
I especially loved how the repetition added more emphasis. This was so beautiful. Loved your poem!
Nicely done, Susan.. I like the way you have molded the haiku form (typically short) into something that tells a story in more detail. I like this format.
The repetition has a quiet, surreal effect, that of getting ready for the change of seasons. Lovely.
