Becoming invisible
Is a fine art
Know from childhood
To some
For others
Practice makes perfection
Start with appearance
Dress in muted colors
Dark works well
Black is best
Tee and jeans
Oversize hoodie
Sneakers preferred
Boots that don’t
Make noise
Dark eye makeup
Black lipstick
Black nails
Then
Stare into a mirror
Repeat the following
Three times
Children should be heard,
Not seen
Avoid crowds
Carry lots of books
Act Nerdy
Or
Be aloof
Disinterested
Moody
Cry
Let the mascara run
Slip through the door
Quietly
Avoid eye contact
Sit in the back
Or
Choose front and center
Look bored
Raise your hand
Like you just don’t care
For EVERY question
When the person
Behind you is picked
Look disappointed
Draw daggers
In your notebooks
Or bleeding hearts
Soon
You’ll be purposefully
Overlooked
Avoided
In essence…
Invisible
