The Eastwing Forest Is Mine

Feel the forest as it cycles through my emotions

I stroll the silent trails of this old enchanted forest

No two days ever the same as I quietly wander,

The silence of human beings is a real treasure

As the true meaning of freedom is what I ponder.

***

The humans have named this the Eastwing Forest

And they are right to fear it, as they typically do,

Enter at their own risks these meandering trails

The magic of Mother Nature they’ll never value.

***

I spend the bulk of my time learning its secrets

As it too takes the time to learn me and mine,

We share those deepest darkness environments

Our closeness, our connection is utterly divine.

***

There’s no holding back sharing my heart and soul

So that the forest is fully in tune with my thoughts,

Our feelings exchanged as I move along the trails

Well aware that I’m chasing the peace that I sought.

***

My mood affects Mother Nature in every way

Today I’m feeling happy as I skip through the trees,

When I feel this gaiety the forest flowers bloom

The air full of fragrance swirling on the breeze.

***

Other days I’ll crash under an old oak specimen

And I’ll cry out my pain, my sorrow and heartache,

This in turn causes this beautiful ancient tree

To shed its leaves in a sympathetic outbreak.

***

We are so finely entwined that we can only survive

As long as both the forest and I are energetically alive,

We feed and nourish each other, our love healing

Take one from the other and we would never survive.

***

So the day the humans crashed through the forest

With their noisy, destructive man made machines,

We knew we had a fight on our hands, a horrid war

If we did not survive we were aware what it means.

***

The Eastwing Forest is mine, an extension of me

And I belong to the magic and love of this place,

If man was to destroy the forest or I was to die

We would be no more and that’d be a disgrace.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
