The Divided States of America

We are not so united anymore, split into different states of reality

one where there is a clear atrocity, a symbol of our country one-third demolished,

the other where there are shrugs, laughter at the destruction, as though it does not matter.

There is no coming back from this,

what's done is done, and they are so far gone

they're shouting "facts over feelings" as they lie,

spouting repetitive excuses hid behind a made-up multi-million dollar price tag

on a basketball court that is somehow outdoors, indoors,

the cause of a black and white photograph from the 40s, and a full stadium that never existed all at the same time.

We are living out the satire, worse than the fictional warnings

because how could anyone predict we might get here?

An orange governing troll, a right-hand class traitor attempting to mimic his wannabe king,

a population lost to their loyalty, in so deep they don't see what they've thrown under the bus

just to steamroll their imaginary enemies.

Oof, sharp and searing! This one cuts right where it should. This one’s waving both a flag and a warning sign.

  • True on the NOW, I hope the Orange Troll gets its comeuppance soon

This is so sharp and powerful. You’ve captured the madness and disconnection of our times so vividly.
