The Disappearing Act

A Daily Ritual

Plant your feet on the cold, hard tile

Strip off your old life

Toss your clothes, even your favorite scrunchie, into a careless heap

Draw back the thin plastic veil

Step into the stark white of your new life

Let the water wash away the memories

Let the heat burn away the pain

Lather away what still clings

Forget the world you're leaving behind:

Your deadlines, your relationships, your regrets, your name...

Everything.

Emerge from the shower a new person

Curl your toes into plush microfiber rug

Wrap yourself in soft cotton

Breathe deep

And wear your new self.
