The Depth Of A Broken Soul
Masquerading as normal

Hopes and dreams with the occasional nightmare,
She doesn’t live unscathed!
**
You see a strength blazoned by light,
Courage that rides the tides of life,
While she sits in the darkness — holding on tight.
**
She rides the waves and throbs, that rob her breath,
Feasts upon the thoughts that revolve; unwillingly,
Terrified you’ll realise the truth she so diligently hides,
Camouflaged within her toughest secrets.
**
She lets you hear her deepest screams,
And yet she still goes unheard,
Her voice cloaked dryly, humour her stanchion,
Understanding she’ll never be enough,
Not through an unveiling.
**
She carries her scars, invested in course locks and bonds,
Buried deep in a broken psyche,
Rattled when shaken, bent when stirred,
Crucified upon every mistake,
A parody of destruction,
Taking one day at a time.
**
She hears the words across the eons,
Whispered by wild mouths in crisp dialect,
The airwaves warp the grains that stick,
Shoulders heaved, head bent in shame,
Just an imperfect human being.
**
Still she tries to follow the sun,
Appreciates every perfect picture presented,
Captured for later integration,
Folded carefully within her memories.
**
On those rainy days she weeps hardest,
Surrendering to the darkness,
Encapsulated within the pain.
**
Today’s nightmare can mar all the hopes and dreams of yesterday,
Especially those built upon old scar tissue roughly healed!
About the Creator

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
