A day — a normal day or so she thought,
Breakfast served in the sun,
Wind ruffling her hair,
The future unknown,
It’s just another day.
**
She smiles at the boredom, the predictability,
It’s just a normal day — until the world tilts,
And the door slams open,
Just like that, everything has changed,
Her world slowly turning upside down.
**
From the corner of her eye she spies his strut,
Her heart stops for a mere second, skips a beat,
And starts racing,
She’s falling;
In a blink of an eye she knows she’ll never be the same.
**
He waltzes past, no idea that she even exists,
Haunting her mind,
Tethering her soul; connecting,
Her chest swells with unbidden emotion,
As her world teeters on the brink.
**
Legs owning the length of the deck,
Confidence screaming from every step,
Glistening in the bright sunlight,
Majestic,
Noble and dripping with wisdom.
**
The world his oyster,
Stealing her heart in seconds,
As he turns his head and makes eye contact,
Two souls shatter,
And the healing begins.
**
He saunters over lazily,
Never breaking eye contact,
Stops, stands and silently waits,
Until she smiles upon his golden head,
As he looks up at her and — purrs.

About the Creator
Colleen Millsteed
My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
