The soundtrack that comes to mind when I wrote this.

🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁

What is brown?

draped in bronze-colored feathers,

as shiny as a new American penny.

What is yellow?

a golden amber sun

resting low in the harvest sky.

What is orange?

a prized pumpkin pie

nestled among the fall bounty.

What is red?

the vermilion leaves

that dance in the nippy breeze.

What is green?

tired blades of grass

ready for their winter’s nap.

What is pink?

a shock of soft pastel,

pumpkins wrapped with shimmering gold.

What is purple?

the delicate mums,

floating in the pristine porcelain bowl.

What is blue?

my thoughts of you,

I gaze at your empty chair,

knowing that you are beyond the azure sky.

The holidays are challenging when you have family and friends that are no longer with us. For me, both of my parents were towards the end of their lives around Thanksgiving and Christmas, so it's an emotionally hard holiday to get through.

It's a conscious effort not to let the flashbacks take over. They would want me to stay in the present moment, and for the most part, I will. But there will be a point when looking around the table when their silent absence will ring loud.

Below is my poem that talks more about the empty chairs.

Thank you for reading.

My wish for you is that your writing/poetry helps you to heal your grief and loss.❀️ Laughter yoga helps me in the winter and sometimes I drag out the sun lamp and up the vitamin dπŸ˜‰ My dad died 60 years ago and my mother 15 years. We spent so many years together at holidays those memories will always come back at this time of year.❀️

Oh no, you nailed it! I am now thinking of my nieces and sis-in-law (and myself) - they miss their dad/husband (my brother) who died end of Sep - the blue line is a killer! Congrats on Top Story.

People who leave around big holy holidays are good people. I think this is what most cultures believe. I know it’s not much of a consolation when the loved one is gone but at least something. Such a beautiful poem, Daphsam.
