The Color of Intimacy

by Whitney Buchmann

By Whitney BuchmannPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

They glisten like the ocean does with the sun

and reflect the hues of my favorite sweater.

They are gatekeepers

and windows.

They offer playful invitations,

welcome others to safety,

express a smile without ever seeing my lips,

provoke vulnerability, and

release emotions that my tongue doesn't yet have words for.

So much is said when my speckled greens meet your icy blues,

when your deep browns meet my big greens,

When these green eyes hold yours...

When these green eyes invite you in

When these green eyes forget that you could see in

When these green eyes search yours

When these green eyes laugh

When these green eyes are mischievous

These emeralds will catch yours

and you might catch a glimpse of the beauty within

more complex than the honey that bursts through.

Will you

Polish it

or tarnish it?

Share it

or keep it to yourself?

Magnify it

or put it under a microscope?

Some say green is the color of

envy

greed

jealousy

harmony

growth

nature

This green is the color of intimacy.
